Digital Images (x-ray)

Our office has recently upgraded our radiographic (x-ray) system in our office to the Kodak RVG 5100 system.

There are many benefits over the traditional radiographs that we used to take:

  • significant reduction of radiation - 50%-80% less radiation; a sensor is placed in the mouth to "pick up" the extremely small dose of x-ray
  • able to immediately see the image on the computer monitor; this helps the doctor speed up treatment
  • can send the image electronically - to a referral doctor, to insurance company or to another dentist, in case you move
  • can still print on photo paper to transfer this electronic image
  • the patient can view this image and discuss available options for treatment with the dentist or staff
  • this system uses a software product called LOGICON that will scan the patient image to indicate decay - use this system as a "back-up" to the dentist's review if there is a question if decay exists - only Kodak has this system that is approved by the FDA

Sometimes, the patient's mouth is too small for the sensor placement so we still have the old style paper films that we have used for many years.  The paper system allows "bending" so we can fit this into smaller spaces
