Bridges are used to replace missing teeth - for aesthetics and/or function.
There are several types: fixed - are not removed by the patient
- all porcelain - anterior aesthetic areas; strength not paramount
- porcelain to metal - cosmetic and strength demands
- Etched bridges (also call a Maryland Bridge) - "wings" of metal are bonded to adjacent teeth of the missing space; the wings have the missing tooth attached
All types have advantages and disadvantages - the dentist will discuss your options and recommend the type of bridge that is best for your situation
